Blog Post 2 Matthew

  1. As I understand it Piaget's stages of development may change order or progress at different rates for each learner. I agree there must be schema developed or previous knowledge had for the task to be completed with little or no help and for wonderful ideas to happen. This may be the building of knowledge in the moment, and that should too be encouraged, but there is some building of knowledge that does require a process of learning that can be summed down to component levels that may be in a different order for each person. Wonderful ideas do happen and should be encouraged and celebrated. The place that I have notices the must unsupervised learning and exploration has been the Keva Planks. Hundreds or simple wooden planks can be built into amazing structures by children (and adults) that have not used them before.
Wonderful ideas may appear to be messing about. When learning utilize there imagination  to play and build they are having wonderful ideas and messing about to see if there wonderful ideas work. The O learning that we described in the reading seeming to the learning most facilitated in the MOXI as a type to exploration allowing for the most creativity and imagination.
The science concepts are the heart of why exhibits work. It is important that the visitor/learners are allowed to explore the concepts and then maybe the science filled in. But it seems that as Sparks we allow the learner to see how they can manipulate the and use the concepts filling in the science and concept ideas allow the way. This allows for the most wonderful ideas and messing about.

"Yes, and" skill that everyone should know and use. The "yes, and" phrase at the beginning of a sentence is affirms the response of the contributor and allows for the responder to add to the idea.  In the MOXI it may encourage visitors/learners to explore and discovery without the feeling of rejection that a "yes, but" statement would incur.
Another that I see as a huge advantage to the improv process is the trust and relationships that the MAPS have made.  I feel that we can better trust and react to our fellow sparks. The time we have spent in the improv class has allowed us to better know our fellow sparks and trust that they will add something unique to the party, but always look out for each other.
