Ring Launch observations and questions- Destiny

Destiny Schwab

Ring Launch

Engagement Levels:
Low (just walk by)
Medium (press button)
High (read the sign and make connections about magnets and rings)
Expert (press button and make a connection to observations)
Master (test)

Observing:
A guest may just simply look the exhibit, may touch the button, and then watch the rings go up. They may also listen to the rings as they leave the base, travel up and down the black tube, and then hit the base again. Visitors can identify the materials used and compare size and shape. They may compare the rings themselves to see similarities and differences. They may notice the metallic rings under the base of where the rings touch. They may even just read the sign and compare that information to the exhibit.
Asking questions:

A guest may ask about how the materials interact and what might make this different if they were plastic. They may ask about how high they rings go and if they differ between the three rings. They may also ask if the rings vary in height compared to the previous button press, do they increase, decrease, or stay the same in height. They may ask if they could stop it above the base and see what happens if they press the button without the rings touching the base. They could simply ask why and how the rings launch up. They could generally ask how magnets work. They could question if it is solely magnets that are making the rings launch that fast. They could ask if each ring is made of different types of metal or materials completely. They could also question if the rings are different weights. They could ask if there are different magnets. They could question if the black poles are making the rings act differently. They could ask about the magnet’s magnetic field.
