When somebody becomes disengaged - Angela Stoebe
Two young girls, about 11-12 years old were playing on the roll-it wall. I observed them for a while and they seemed stuck at a lower engagement level for a long period of time so I decided to interact with them and bring them to the next engagement level. We were having great interactions exploring the possibilities while building a new track when one of the girls decided to go off to the light track. I continued to engage with the one girl still remaining at the roll-it wall however once her friend left she because distracted and disengaged. At this point, we were in the middle of building and testing our new track and she politely stayed at the roll-it wall and interacted with me however I could tell she was distracted, not engaged, and wanted to go with her friend. What experiences have you had similar to this interaction? Did you continue to try to engage the guest? What are good ways to end an interaction in this situation?
