C/C three data collection

You have now read about three methods of collecting data: observations, interviews, and surveys/questionnaires.
Compare and contrast the challenges and utility of these three methods in MOXI.

Observation:
Challenges:

  • Hard to observe thought process of an individual unless you are talking with them or they are talking aloud.
  •  Need to make inferences and they are not always accurate.
  • Very time consuming, not efficient.
Utility:
  • Unbiased
  • First hand account of what is being observed.
  • practical
Interviews:
Challenges:
  • Bias/ dishonest
  • May disrupt guest and cause a bad experience.
  • Can not interview every guest. (limits pool of diversity for evaluation)
  • Can be intimidating (depending on the questions and how they are formatted)
Utility:
  • Aquire guest's perspective (no need for inferences if you ask them).
  • Direct guest feedback. (if the interview involves open ended questions, this may result in guests restating or trying to get the "right" answer).

Surveys/questionnaires:
Callenges:

  • Bias/ dishonest
  • May disrupt guest and cause a bad experience.
  • Can not interview every guest. (limits pool of diversity for evaluation).
Utility:
  • Guest's perspective.
  • Allows for direct guest feedback

For MOXI I think observation is the most practical and useful in collecting data about a guest's experience. However, it would be nice to incorporate a guest satisfaction survey into some or even one exhibit at a time. That way we can get guest's opinions and improve their experiences. Lastly, I do not think that interviews are helpful at all in a setting like MOXI because they are too intimidating and can be bias or dishonest.
