Compare and contrast the challenges and utility of these three methods in MOXI.
Observation:
Challenges:
- Hard to observe thought process of an individual unless you are talking with them or they are talking aloud.
- Need to make inferences and they are not always accurate.
- Very time consuming, not efficient.
Utility:
- Unbiased
- First hand account of what is being observed.
- practical
Interviews:
Challenges:
- Bias/ dishonest
- May disrupt guest and cause a bad experience.
- Can not interview every guest. (limits pool of diversity for evaluation)
- Can be intimidating (depending on the questions and how they are formatted)
Utility:
- Aquire guest's perspective (no need for inferences if you ask them).
- Direct guest feedback. (if the interview involves open ended questions, this may result in guests restating or trying to get the "right" answer).
Surveys/questionnaires:
Callenges:
- Bias/ dishonest
- May disrupt guest and cause a bad experience.
- Can not interview every guest. (limits pool of diversity for evaluation).
Utility:
- Guest's perspective.
- Allows for direct guest feedback
For MOXI I think observation is the most practical and useful in collecting data about a guest's experience. However, it would be nice to incorporate a guest satisfaction survey into some or even one exhibit at a time. That way we can get guest's opinions and improve their experiences. Lastly, I do not think that interviews are helpful at all in a setting like MOXI because they are too intimidating and can be bias or dishonest.
